It’s not a biopic of the same ilk as, say, Bohemian Rhapsody – instead it’s an all-new story that utilises the hits of one of the most iconic music acts of all time. And Yesterday unites a stellar cast that’s headlined by former EastEnders favourite Himesh Patel, famed for playing Tamwar Masood, and Lily James.
In it, our lead character suffers an accident and wakes up in a world where the Beatles never existed.
So he finds himself caught in a whirlwind in which he’s taking credit for all of their most iconic hits – and becoming a global megastar.
Kate McKinnon and James Corden also star, with direction from the acclaimed Danny Boyle.
The trailer, released yesterday, has already had over 2.1 million views on YouTube, and its premise has gone down incredibly well.
“This looks perfect. A seemingly diverse film using the Beatles art for what it is – a once-in-forever collection of absolute genius,” said one person. “And mocking how dreadful ears and the ‘industry’ currently are.”
“Wow this looks awesome,” said someone else.
A third beamed: “Cool concept. And Danny Boyle. I’m in.”
One particular scene in the film was shot in Suffolk and reportedly boasts over 6,000 extras.
According to the BBC, a director of Film Suffolk said: “It’s a fantastic advert for Suffolk in itself and I would be surprised if it didn’t lead to an increase in film-induced tourism.
“People see these wonderful locations on the big screen and then come to visit them for themselves.”
Sheeran, meanwhile, posted on Instagram: “I’m playing myself in a new film called #YesterdayMovie was a lot of fun to be a part of this.”
Yesterday is out on June 28.
