Microsoft has suffered a rather embarrassing Windows 10 glitch which has hit one of its own-brand PCs.
The glitch, which is affecting the firm’s flagship Surface Book 2, makes the computer’s main GPU appear to become completely undetectable.
As spotted by ZDNet, once the latest version of Windows 10 is installed, the Surface’s Nvidia GPU is no longer found which then hits performance and even causes some applications to crash.
The problem is so serious that Microsoft has now blocked certain Surface Book devices from accessing this new version of Windows 10.
“To safeguard your update experience, we have applied a compatibility hold on Surface Book 2 devices with Nvidia dGPUs from being offered Windows 10, version 1903, until this issue is resolved,” the firm said in its blog.
If you think your machine is affected by the issue then you’ll need to check the model of your device.
Microsoft has confirmed that it has only hit the more expensive Surface Book 2 that features the separate Nvidia GPU.
If you own that device and have already installed Windows 10 version 1903 then it’s recommended that you can restart the PC or select the Scan for hardware changes button in the Action menu or on the toolbar in Device Manager.
The Redmond firm also states that it is working on a resolution and will provide an update in an upcoming release.
This latest bug joins numerous other issues that have hit recent versions of Windows 10.
Since the latest version of the software was released back in May, users of the software have complained of problems including an update which stopped Bluetooth devices from connecting and an unexpected bug that caused a black screen to appear when starting up machines.
Another bug was also found in the very latest version, (Windows 10, version 1903), which is affecting some Windows 10 Enterprise users who access the web via VPNs.
Although these glitches are clearly an irritation for users there has been some better news that was recently announced.
Microsoft is testing a new Windows 10 feature that will transform the users access all of their digital lives.
The update, which has been spotted in a test build of the software, allows Windows 10 fans to go totally password-free.
Once a PC is updated with the latest version of Windows 10, an option becomes available to “Make your device passwordless”.
As soon as this is activated it will switch all Microsoft accounts on that Windows 10 device to use Windows Hello Face, Fingerprint, or PIN only.
