Where is Donald Trump? US President spends another week playing golf – this is the cost

It is no secret the US President is fond of golf. The tycoon owns a number of luxury golf courses, across the world, including Trump Turnberry in Scotland. So, perhaps it isn’t surprising the President’s absence is somehow linked to the sport.

Mr Trump is currently taking a summer break at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, New Jersey.

The course is boasted to be an exclusive club, and will be the home of the 2022 PGA Championship.

Mr Trump will reportedly be away from The White House for ten days – returning on Sunday, August 18.

In the meantime, the reaction to Mr Trump’s summer break has been met with a lot of criticism.

Much of this criticism surrounds the cost of the President’s visit and the number of repeat visits the President makes to his private clubs.

According to Factbase, the President has spent 221 days playing golf so far in his presidency.

The site also suggests Mr Trump has already spent 85 days at his Bedminster golf course.

In addition, he has made 63 visits to his golf club in Potomac Falls, Virginia and 58 visits to the Trump National Golf Club in West Palm Beach.

The site also states the President has visited his Mar-a-Lago property in Florida for a total of 99 days.

Overall, site figures suggest Mr Trump has only spent 83 percent of his presidency at The White House.

According to a report by the Independent, the golf trips have totalled to nearly £88million ($107million) in costs to the taxpayer.

American Bridge 21st Century, a research group tracking government spending, shared findings with the publication.

They suggest the US Secret Service has  spent almost £1million ($1.2m) so far protecting the President on his golf holidays.

Jeb Fain, a communications director for American Bridge 21st Century, told The Independent: “Taxpayers have a right to know how they’re funding his lazing around a golf course … and it’s absolutely astounding when you break it down.”
