Who is Tess Daly, how old is she and what is her background?

Tess Daly was born on April 27, 1969, in Stockport, Cheshire, and grew up in Derbyshire.

The 49-year-old dog lover and mum-of-two lives in Fulmer, Buckinghamshire, with husband Vernon Kay.

She has a younger sister called Karen, who Tess was out shopping with when she was spotted by a modelling headhunter, at the age of 18.

Her modelling saw her live in many countries, and she was based in Paris and New York for five years each.

She appeared in two Duran Duran videos and even stripped nude for a music video by band The Beloved.

After being encouraged by an American pal, Tess began interviewing celebs during red carpet events.

She sent a tape as an audition for Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast in 2000, and this led her to host their Find Me A Model competition.

After that she landed hosting roles on Make Me A Supermodel, SMTV Live and Back To Reality, before bagging her Strictly Come Dancing gig in 2004.

Did Tess Daly take part in the 24-hour dance marathon for Comic Relief?

Yes! Tess and her Strictly Come Dancing co-presenter Claudia Winkleman raised an incredible £780,000 for the charity with the help of a string of celebrity guests.

The presenters took on the charity’s longest-ever Danceathon for Red Nose Day live on BBC Radio Two.

The duo kicked off the challenge at 7pm on Monday night and were joined by a host of celebrity guests to keep them going.13

Davina McCall, Fleur East, Beverley Knight and Michael Ball were just some of the famous faces who stopped by to cheer on Claudia and Tess.

Speaking after completing the impressive challenge, Claudia said: “I never want to dance again… I don’t like movement.”

Tess explained how her dance partner Claudia had kept her going through the intense challenge, adding: “She’s had my back the whole way through. We’ve looked after each other. We’ve seen each other strapped up with tape. We both had a little cry.

“We are a bit tired and emotional.”

How long has Tess been hosting Strictly Come Dancing and how much does she earn?

Tess began presenting BBC One’s dance contest Strictly back in 2004, and was joined by co-host Bruce Forsyth for ten years.

Then in 2014 he retired from the programme to be replaced by Claudia Winkleman, who remains Tess’ partner to this day.

This autumn will be Tess’s 13th Strictly series, and she’s only ever missed a couple of episodes during her pregnancy, during which time Natasha Kaplinsky covered for her.

In July 2017 the BBC revealed Tess is being paid between £350k and £399k a year for her Strictly work, though her yearly earnings from all her modelling and endorsements is thought to be £750k.

How did Tess meet Vernon Kay and how long have they been married?

Tess and fellow presenter Vernon Kay, five years her junior, began dating in 2001 when he was hosting T4.

The pair – who are parents to Phoebe and Amber – then married in 2003 in Horwich, near Kay’s native Bolton.

Becoming TV’s golden couple, they presented BBC singing competition Just The Two Of Us from 2006 to 2007.

The title of that show took on a horrible irony when it was revealed in 2010 that Vernon had been sexting multiple women secretly, including Page 3 girl Rhian Sugden.

In 2016 he was caught out texting Rhian again but Tess has continued to stick by him.

She’s also remained silent on the matter, while Vernon claimed last year: “Tess is aware of everything that has been discussed with Rhian.”
