Jadon Sancho wants to return to the Premier League this summer, three year after he left Manchester City but Borussia Dortmund are refusing the sell the star because Manchester United missed their deadline.
Dortmund have wanted any sale completed before yesterday as they jetted off to their pre-season training camp in Switzerland.
United failed to put a package together which meets the Bundesliga side’s £108million valuation.
Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s sporting director, warned that Sancho will remain with his club for the 2020/21 campaign.
He said: “We plan on having Jadon Sancho in our team this season, the decision is final. I think that answers all our questions.
“Last summer, we adjusted Jadon’s salary to match the development of his performances.
“So in context, we had already extended his contract until 2023 back then.”
However, German transfer insider Jan Aage Fjortoft thinks Sancho still wants to leave and explained how the 20-year-old can force through a move.
“We have been told that they have agreed personal terms with Manchester United, that’s the easy part,” Fjortoft told ESPN FC.
“The thing is Sancho is English and he wants to get home at one stage.
“I think with the story that Dortmund got with [Ousmane] Dembele and [Pierre-Emerick] Auubameyang, who went on strike to leave the club, it is very important for them to have a very good dialogue with Sancho.
“When Zorc comes out and says the statement that he will stay, we will see how long that trust will stick.
“Dortmund in a normal season will have 81,000 at each game – but it is still not England.”
United are playing the long game with Dortmund in hope that they drop their price.
“You can’t drag out negotiations like they do,” Fjortoft added. “I think the fans are sick of Man Utd using all these weeks and months to do these deals.
“And then they have a look at Liverpool getting a new defender in, chop chop chop, and then Manchester City get a couple of deals done.
“Manchester United just keep dragging on any deals they do.”
