WATFORD goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has revealed he has received a “call up from God” to become a pastor when he retires from football this summer.

The 38-year-old is “99 per cent” sure his playing days will soon be over, meaning his last Vicarage Road appearance could be in the FA Cup quarter-final against Crystal Palace.

The veteran Brazilian has not featured for the Hornets in the Premier League this season as Ben Foster’s understudy but he has played in all of the cup matches.

The former Spurs stopper is aiming to end his career on a high by helping Watford to FA Cup glory but Gomes has also confirmed he already has his future plans sorted.

He said: “I’m prepared for it, I got a call up from God to be a pastor, maybe I’m going to be a pastor.

“There has been a change in the last few years. This (faith) inside of me came more and more. It can be an opportunity for me to pass this on to other people who need it as well.

“In faith, God starts to talk to you, ‘I want you to serve me in this way’. When it becomes closer to the time, it becomes more and more inside of you.

“In the last two years it has been very strong inside of me, so maybe this can happen.

“Even if I plan for a long time to finish, I haven’t decided yet. I am saying this because it can happen at the end of this season, but I want to finish the season and speak to my family as well.

“I have got a few plans to make involving football as well. My life will continue, out from the pitch but involved in football as well.”

Gomes’s involvement in football is likely to be as an agent after he revealed that coaching doesn’t appeal, partly because it wouldn’t give him the time to be a pastor.

The former Brazil international also has experience being an agent already, seeing as he brokered his last contract extension with Watford in 2017 himself.

He added: “I think I will be good at helping players, to bring the right players to the right clubs in Europe.

“I played in Germany, I played in Holland, I played here for a long time, so I know the kind of players that clubs need. I can bring the right players to them.

“When I used to speak to young players in Brazil, their parents see me and they know my history in England and Europe. They say, ‘Oh please, help him. You are the right person’.”
