The incident is believed to have taken place at Clapton Common. Two people were found injured, but their condition is not currently known. MPS Hackney tweeted: “We were called at 23:20hrs to reports of a stabbing near Clapton Common, E5.
The police have also confirmed the Stamford Hill junction with Clapton Common is now closed and is expected to remain that way for some time.
In May, it was reported that police were bracing for an increase in violent crime as the coronavirus lockdown began to be eased.
Dr Simon Harding, a former Met Police and Home Officer advisor explained to The Guardian: “We’re going to have the backwash of everything that’s happened over the last two months. There’s a crimewave coming, a tsunami on the way.”
The newspaper reported during lockdown some gangs were able to expand country lines operations and there were fears social media taunts during lockdown could lead to an explosion of violent crime, though there is no indication this incident was gang-related.
