THIS Morning viewers fell for a fake ITV news bulletin on today’s show, which was in fact just a couple’s gender revealed.
The stunt – which saw Holly Willoughby pretend to break off the show for a breaking news story – has been branded a “disgrace” by those watching at home.
Acting just like she would for a real story, Holly handed over to ITV news presenter Nina Hossain who then proceeded to read what appeared to be a genuine news story.
Instead she was simply telling couple Chelsea Austin and Jack Fythian, who are 21 weeks pregnant with twins, the gender of their children – boys.
Fans of the show were not impressed and feared for the worst when the show broke off for a news report – with some believing the Queen had died or there had been a terrorist attack.
Taking to Twitter to comment on it, one person wrote: “I S**t myself. I thought there was a terror attack #thismorning #idiots #fuming #notfunny #badidea #newsflash #breakingnews.”
Another commented: “Not impressed with the breaking news gender reveal idea on #ThisMorning – usually associated with a terror attack or something awful to interrupt a show so don’t think it was the best idea.”
Others revealed they would be making official complaints about the prank: “@Ofcom Really distressed watching #ThisMorning today following a ‘Breaking News Flash’ interrupted the programme. In the light of recent suspect packages, stabbing horrors and an aged royal family, I listened in horror but then found it to be a fake broadcast. Not clever.”
