The Good Doctor fans are eagerly waiting for the return of the medical drama to ABC with its fourth season. However, new reports have suggested the show might be facing some big delays ahead of its release – here’s what you need to know.
Why has The Good Doctor season 4 been put on hold?
Fans of The Good Doctor are eager for the series to begin filming once again following the dramatic end to season four.
And heading into the new outing, there’s already plenty which needs to be resolved.
This includes the doctors mourning the death of Dr Neil Melendez (played by Nicholas Gonzalez) as well as Shaun Murphy’s (Freddie Highmore) new relationship with Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara).
The show has already been given an autumn launch date on ABC where it is expected to air on Monday evenings once again.

However, it seems like the show may be facing more delays caused by the outbreak of coronavirus COVID-19.
On July 31, The Hollywood Reporter reported production had been put on hold ahead of the new series.
According to the publication, the show was in pre-production with aims of filming by mid-August.
Filming on the show takes place in Vancouver in Canada each year but it seems there are some new delays.
However, the BC Council has not yet responded to a comment request from The Hollywood Reporter.
Express.co.uk has contacted both Sony Pictures Television and the BC Council for comment.
A number of productions have been impacted by the outbreak of coronavirus around the world.
Only now is some filming beginning on television shows and films amid some easing of restrictions.
Ahead of season four returning on ABC later this year, showrunner David Shore told Deadline a bit about what it will focus on.
He said back in March following the finale of season three: “I don’t think Dr. Park is going to be leaving.
“I don’t think Dr. Morgan’s going to be leaving, but there are going to be changes for those characters as a result of things that have happened to them and the experiences they’ve had.
“In her [Morgan’s] case a physical change, in his [Park’s] case an emotional change. But there will be changes for both of them.”
Shore also teased: “I’m excited by the opportunities that we all see set up in this.
“I’m not a genius enough to know where things are going. That’s the excitement for me, too.
“I’m excited by the opportunities it’s presenting for me and the excitement for the audience.”
The Good Doctor season 4 is expected to return later in 2020.
