Yesterday marked Clean Air Day in the UK and fittingly was also the day Tesla Model 3 reservation holders received their cars. Tesla has begun distributing its new electric cars to British customers yesterday as the car officially landed on UK soil earlier this week. The Model 3 garnered more than 325,000 first week global reservations when it was first announced in 2016. There has not been a car to create such a huge hype for decades and patient UK reservation holders will be elated to finally get their hands on it.
Express.co.uk was invited down to get behind the wheel of the Model 3, and impressions of the car will be shared this weekend but quite simply, it’s a great vehicle.
At the event there were a number of customers taking delivery of their car.
One such customer, David, who has always driven classic cars and ‘old bangers’, said that receiving his Model 3 was ‘like Christmas.’
“When Model 3 came out, I put a deposit down in the first couple of days. I’ve been looking forward to today, like Christmas. I hadn’t really seen the point in spending a lot of money on a new car.
“But with electric being the future and the Autopilot features and future full self driving, I decided to go for it.
“Model 3 is for my daily driver and I’ve got a few trips planned, one to go skiing and Le Mans Classic. It’ll need a bit more planning but we’ll save loads in fuel.”
Another owner, who had never been in a Tesla before shared his thoughts for picking up a Model 3.
He said: “I’m into my green technology and always like the idea of electric cars.
“Three years before getting into that queue I bought a Leaf which gave me my first taste of electric cars. This takes the tech from a Leaf to a new level.”
The Model 3 is available in two different variants in Britain – the Standard Range Plus and Performance.
Model 3 Performance starts at £48,590 and is the quickest car in its class, capable of achieving 0-60 mph in 3.2s.
It comes with the Long Range Battery for 329 miles of WLTP range and Dual-Motor All-Wheel Drive for enhanced performance and traction.
The entry-level Rear Wheel Drive Standard Range Plus starts at £38,900 and accelerated from 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds and has 258-miles of range on a standard charge.
