Strictly Come Dancing 2020: BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker tipped to 'win' show

It’s only a matter of time before Strictly Come Dancing bosses release the highly-anticipated list of celebrity names who are taking part in this year’s show. And now respected bookmakers Paddy Power, have predicted a BBC Breakfast star will waltz his way to the very end, if he signs-up that is…

The betting agent announced that Dan Walker could appear on the 2020 series, following in the footsteps of his colleagues, such as Mike Bushell who took part last year.

A spokesman for the company said: “While the BBC’s Dan Walker is short-priced to join the show, and we’d also make him short-priced to win it should he swap soccer and sequins for salsa.

“We think he’s just the kind of candidate that could go on, win hearts, and win the entire thing.”

Express.co.uk reached out to Dan’s representatives for comment.

Dan has been rumoured to join the Strictly family many times over the years, as the BBC stalwart has become a firm fan favourite on breakfast TV.

Last year he supported sports reporter Mike all the way until he was knocked out with pro dance partner Katya Jones, which led some to believe his time could be in the near future.

Earlier this year, many called for him to sign-up for the glamours extravaganza after he showcased his moves during a charity climb up Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief, where he shared video footage of his brief audition for head judge Shirley Ballas, who was also on the trip.

Taking to Twitter, Dan reminisced on the adventure of a lifetime.

He wrote: “Today is one year exactly since a bunch of us got the opportunity to climb Kilimanjaro for @comicrelief.

“It was an amazing experience with a group of people I will never forget. With your help, we managed to raise millions of pounds for charity and made friends for life.”

It became apparent that Shirley suffered a set back, and Dan wanted to cheer her up with something she does best.

The judge began to giggle as Dan took things a step further in his mission to make his friend laugh.

“You could do the Pasodoble with this!” he exclaimed, as he proceeded to twirl around with the blanket.

She replied: “Thank you, it’s a 10 from me!”

The year before, Dan had to apologise to his fans after he mistakingly announced he was joining the 2018 Strictly cast.

However, he soon corrected himself after realising he had forgotten one very crucial word in the statement.

In an attempt to clear up the speculation that he was indeed taking part, he told his followers: “Now then… the rumours are not true.

“I am 100% doing @bbcstrictly this year. Too busy with life, @BBCBreakfast, Football Focus & a new quiz on @BBCOne starting next month called #ChaseTheCase.”

After his followers started to congratulate him, Dan realised his mistake and told them: “Ooops!

“NOT DOING. Quite an important word to miss out. I shall be watching from the safety of the sofa #Not,” he quickly backtracked.

So fans are still waiting for the football fanatic to take the plunge….

Maybe this year he will?

Strictly returns later this year to BBC One.
