TOTTENHAM boss Mauricio Pochettino benched Heung-Min Son for the Premier League clash against Huddersfield – and Spurs fans were fuming.
Harry Kane and Dele Alli had already been ruled out of the game after picking up injuries against Manchester City on Tuesday.
With the second leg of the Champions League tie against City looming large, Pochettino decided to reshuffle his team for Saturday’s game against the relegated Terriers.
Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld sat on the bench as Tottenham were to play their third game in the new £1bn arena.
But the absence of Son, 26, upset fans the most, considering the South Korea international’s recent form.
It was the prolific winger who scored the historic, first goal at the new Lane against Crystal Palace last week.
And Son’s late strike a few days ago gave Tottenham a slender advantage as they travel to Manchester for Wednesday’s crunch Champions League tie.
Tottenham already had to deal without Kane, who had suffered ankle ligament damage; Alli, who had broken his hand; and Harry Winks, who had pulled his groin earlier this week.
Spurs are still embroiled in a heated top four battle as they approached the game with just one point advantage over fifth Arsenal.
And as Tottenham desperately needed three points against Huddersfield, supporters thought Poch might have taken too great a risk by benching Son.
