A MASSIVE new entertainment city is being planned for Spain, which will feature a “Disney-level theme park”.
The new tourist destination, which has been named Elysium City, will be built in the municipality of Castilblanco, just under three hours south of Madrid.
The “smart city”, which will also feature a water park and an 18-hole golf course, will be served by its own high-speed train system and heliport according to Travel + Leisure.
The park is designed to use the surrounding terrain for outdoor sports, such as hiking, bike-riding and nature walks.
In addition, there will be a 40,000 seat stadium for music festivals and sporting events.
It will also have free high-speed WiFi throughout, as well as smart infrastructure such as live traffic and weather updates, along with intelligent furniture and lighting that will be environmental friendly.
Building work for the smart city is expected to start later this year.
The first phase of Elysium City is due to open in 2023, with an estimated four million guests expected during the first year.
Initially, guests will be able to stay in one of the 3,000 rooms, spread across four hotels, each with their own casinos.
The second stage of the city will open in 2028, with more luxury hotels as well as a Formula One track and an equestrian centre.
The creators are also planning other attractions for the destinations, but have yet to reveal the plans for these.
John Cora, founder and chairman of Cora Alpha behind the city told Travel + Leisure: “It’s basically a city that we’re creating that will be a smart city from ground up, but the core will be the entertainment pieces: a Disney-level major theme park and an adventure water park that’s unlike typical water parks.”
The new city will also be home to 2,000 housing units for new residents in the 1,200 hectare region.
Theme-park fans are lucky enough to have a number of other new openings in the next few years around the world.
A new ride at Efteling in the Netherlands will be based on the Brothers Grimm story of the Six Swans.
