OLE GUNNAR SOLSKJAER will dump his sloppy stars unless they start shaping up.

The Manchester United boss was nicknamed the Baby-Faced Assassin when he played at Old Trafford.

And he promises he will still be a killer if he does not get his way.

He declared: “You have to make tough decisions. You have to say to players ‘I don’t think you’re for me’.”

United face Everton today desperate to make next season’s Champions League having been knocked out of it by Barcelona on Tuesday.

Solskjaer added: “There were certain things we did when I was a player and that’s what I am talking about in terms of culture.

“I’m talking about how the manager trusted us.

“About how we had to take ownership as a group and as a team. He trusted us.

“If you stepped out of bounds it was unfortunate for you that you wouldn’t stay here long.

“That’s the way it has to be at a club like this.”

Solskjaer added: “I’m not trying to make things like they once were — because the world changes and football changes.

“You can’t tell players to do all the same things we did when I played. That would be naive.”

Solskjaer replaced Jose Mourinho with a smile.

But four months on and after five defeats in seven games he is only gritting his teeth in  frustration.

Ander Herrera and Juan Mata have already been told their contracts are not being renewed.

Eric Bailly, Nemanja Matic, Matteo Darmian, Alexis Sanchez and Marcus Rojo are just some of those who could find their names in Solskjaer’s out-tray.

There will be others although United are determined they will not sell enigmatic £89million record buy Paul Pogba.

They are also likely to stump up the £350,000 a week goalkeeper David De Gea wants to sign a new deal.

Solskjaer has plans to bid for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon  Sancho and he has been linked with Declan Rice (West Ham) as well as a number of central defenders, the latest being Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.

Failure to make the top four could impact on those plans and how Pogba and De Gea might feel about remaining.

But Solskjaer stressed: “You have a short term and a long term aim.

“Of course the long-term targets don’t change, the long-term ambitions of the club don’t change.

“We plan to be in the top four, we plan to be in the Champions League next year.

“We want players that can keep us in the Champions League and move us up the table.

“But we won’t be bringing in six new players.”
