The Manchester United chief expects to be without Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones, Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera.

Defender Marcos Rojo is touch and go but Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Anthony Martial and Mason Greenwood are likely to miss out.

Solksjaer – who turned 46 on Tuesday – said: “We’ve not had a session yet so I don’t think there are a lot of positives, no.

“I don’t know the list that’s supposed to be injured. Matteo trained the other day, I don’t think he’ll be ready.

“Rojo will be involved, Rashy we’re still waiting to see how his ankle is responding to the treatment, muscle injuries are too early to think about. That’s it.

“The kids are joining in today. They’ll be involved in the squad.”

It means both Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez are likely to get a chance in the clash with the Eagles.

He said: “It’s a chance for them to play to their potential, reputation is one thing, the potential is high.

“The two are good mates, link up well together so this might be a chance for them two together to find some form and give a selection headache for when everyone gets fit.

“Romelu created our two biggest chances against Liverpool, it’s a different position for him,

“Rashy’s injury couldn’t do too much defending work, so Romelu’s work rate was fantastic, the two chances were Rom’s doing.

“We saw the link up between them against Arsenal in the Cup. So hopefully they can step up.”

Solskjaer is looking forward to blooding the three youngsters at some stage over the coming weeks.

He said: “They’ve been part of our training for a long time now.

“I’m sure Angel has been in that successful with England U17s, the 2017 team with Sancho, Foden and Hudson-Odoi.

“He’s been a big part and definitely shown he’ll do well. JG is a Michael Carrick but 20 years younger, I’m sure he’ll do well.

“Chongy will be taking people on if he comes on.

“They’re ready, the kids, it’s hard if you’re a defender coming on but as an attacker you go out there and express yourself, they can win the game not lose.”
