NEWBURY’S card is a proper tease for the upcoming flat season.
But for punters it’s a bit of a minefield and as always at this time of the year could throw up some interesting results.
GREAT SCOT (Newbury, 2.40) is my most confident selection on a busy day.
He’s second top-rated in the Greenham and if he’s learnt to settle, there should be a lot more to come this year.
His fifth in the Vertem Futurity can be marked up plenty. The handicapper gave him 7lbs for that.
Despite pulling a truck for the first furlong, he travelled like the winner a couple from home before a combination of a wide draw and his early exertions cost him.
LATEST IN HORSE RACING
His back form is solid and the drop back to seven doesn’t bother me in the slightest.
He’s a strong traveller once he settles and the conditions should be spot on.
Elsewhere on Saturday…
In the Spring Cup, I’ll have an each-way poke on ANOTHER BATT (Newbury, 3.15). He was a tad unlucky in the Lincoln and has been given a bit of relief by the handicapper. This is slightly less competitive and he’s got one of these races in him.
At Ayr I’ve already put my cards on the table with MORNEY WING (Ayr, 3.35) at a big price. Later on SOLOMON GREY (4.10) must also have a huge chance for Team Skelton.
