Templegate may be 2-1 up in the monthly standings but Chappers is still ahead for April, so who will strike this week?

Both our tipsters are heading to the same race at Haydock for their NAP so we’ll get a proper, gritty head-to-head battle!

Standings (£1 Stakes)

January: Chappers 1 – 0 Templegate

February: Chappers 1 – 1 Templegate

March: Chappers 1 – 2 Templegate

April: Chappers +£1 & Templegate -£4

Templegate

DO your Sums to add up your winnings. SUMKINDOFKING hasn’t run at all badly this winter considering the ground has been softer than he cares for.

The Kim Muir at the Cheltenham Festival was always going to be too hot for him but he should be a real force in these calmer waters.

He won twice last year and he’s the one to beat on his Badger Ales Trophy second behind Present Man at Wincanton in November.

Quarenta doesn’t do any more than he needs to and that makes it hard to the handicapper to get a grip on him. His Warwick win in February hasn’t worked out particularly well and consistency hasn’t always been his strong suit.

The Paddy Pie rarely runs a bad race. He was a little lucky to win at this track in February and he’s yet to prove he stays today’s longer trip.

Alan King’s Mahlermade has been consistent since switching to fences but it hasn’t done him much good as he’s without a win of any description.

Stablemate Salmanazar didn’t run badly at Newbury last month but his sole chase win came more than four years ago.

Templegate’s ITV tips:

  • 1.50 Musselburgh – Hayadh
  • 2.05 Haydock – Ming Dynasty
  • 2.25 Musselburgh – Reggae Runner
  • 2.40 Haydock – Sumkindofking (NAP)
  • 3.00 Musselburgh – Mokaatil
  • 3.15 Haydock – Diamond Fort
  • 3.35 Musselburgh – Making Miracles

Matt Chapman

There’s some cracking action at Haydock including the 2.40pm where I fancy QUARENTA to down Templegate’s selection.

The fact he only does as much as he needs to is a positive as it means he hasn’t been hammered by the handicapper!

He is in cracking shape for Jonjo O’Neill and might be hard to pass. He stays well so this marathon trip will suit and conditions are fine.

Matt Chapman’s ITV tips:
  • 1.50 Musselburgh – Hayadh
  • 2.05 Haydock – Cubswin
  • 2.25 Musselburgh – On The Line
  • 2.40 Haydock – Quarenta (NAP)
  • 3.00 Musselburgh – Captain Colby
  • 3.15 Haydock – Court Liability
  • 3.35 Musselburgh – Pipes Of Peace
