MAURIZIO SARRI admitted his job is on the line after his Chelsea team were hit for six by Manchester City.

The odds on the Italian boss getting chopped plummeted to 13-8 — with Zinedine Zidane and Laurent Blanc in the frame to replace him at Stamford Bridge.

Asked if he feared the sack, Sarri said: “I don’t know. You have to ask the club. I am worried about my team, I’m worried about the performance. But my job is always at risk.”

Chelsea were four goals down in the space of 25 minutes against Pep Guardiola’s champions.

This was the Blues’ worst-ever defeat in the Premier League and former Napoli manager Sarri now expects to have talks with the club’s hierarchy.

He added: “I think that will happen because that is normal.

“It’s something we need to do. I am in charge of the team, so it’s right.

“If the president calls, I’ll be happy, seeing as I never hear from him.

“To be honest, I don’t know what to expect.”

On a desperate day, defender Antonio Rudiger got an angry reaction from fans when he went to them to apologise.

But Sarri, who has been in charge for just over six months, has no plans to change his football style.

He said: “I’m not able to see the reason but I have to work for this.

“My target is to play my football, not to change to another football.”

TV cameras showed him walking down the tunnel without shaking hands with Guardiola after the final whistle.

He explained: “I didn’t see him at that moment.

“I’ll go to say hello to him later.

“I wanted to go to the dressing room and didn’t see him. I’ve no problem with Pep.”

Guardiola — who also endured a tough first season in England — had some words of sympathy for his opposite number.

The City boss said: “People don’t understand how difficult the first year can be. Managers need time. The people in charge need to believe in them.”

Meanwhile, City apologised to Chelsea after the Madness song One Step Beyond — normally sung at Stamford Bridge — was played at the whistle.
