- Stick with distance winners
- Four-year-olds do well
- 8/1 shortest winning price since 2009
- Only one winner has carried more than 9st 3lb
TAKE it as Red in the Hunt Cup. Red Starlight looks a solid each-way bet on the trends for Richard Hannon.
Weight plays an important part in this charge up the straight with no winner in the past decade carrying more than 9st 5lb.
That means we can cross out Cardsharp, Mitchum Swagger, Comin’ Through, Mordin and Crazy Horse.
A distance win has been an asset so we can overlook Key Victory, Chief Ironside, Glendevon and Stylehunter.
Eight of the past 10 winners finished in the first four last time which is a negative for Robin Of Navan, Afaak, Zwayyan, Cion Coulis and Beringer. Chilean and Vale Of Kent are ruled out due to their long absence.
Horses aged four have a strong record with seven wins in the decade, including the past four. That really helps us to narrow them down with So Beloved, Settle For Bay, Zhui Feng, Raising Sand, Roc Angel, Circus Couture, Kynren, Seniority, Breden and What’s The Story all too old.
That has narrowed them down to four — New Graduate, King’s Field, Red Starlight and Petrus.
Favourites have a poor record, which is a worry for New Graduate. The other three are all trading at around the 25-1 mark and could easily hit the frame.
King’s Field is interesting coming over from Joseph O’Brien and is worth a small interest but RED STARLIGHT has run well a couple of times here before including when second in a Listed contest last season. She is capable of hitting the frame at tasty odds.
