Reading stabbing: Police SHUT A4 after incident prompts heavy emergency response

A critical care response Air Ambulance as well as several other ambulances are at the scene, which has a heavy police presence. Officers sealed off the road at the junction with St Bartholomew’s Road at around 7pm. Thames Valley Police said one man suffered stab wounds in the incident and has been rushed to hospital. 

In a statement, the force said: “Our officers are at the scene of an assault which occurred earlier this evening in the London Road area of Reading.

“A man has sustained stab wounds and has been taken to hospital for treatment.

“He is in a stable condition.

“An investigation into the incident is underway, and members of the public will see an increased police presence while this takes place.

“Thank you to everyone for their patience during this time.”

One person in the area said a nearby park had also been sealed off by police. 

They tweeted: “A4 closed palmer Park incident avoid area believed to be a stabbing!”

The A4 has been closed in both direction and traffic is queueing near the Sutton Seeds Roundabout. 

Local traffic and travel service Inrix said police closed the road has been closed off since around 6.15pm. 

Inrix said: “A4 London Road in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to police incident from A3290 (Sutton Seeds Roundabout, Woodley) to A329 King’s Road (Cemetery Junction, Reading).

“Congestion to Forbury Retail Park. The police have closed the road around 6.15pm due to the incident along with St Bartholomews Road to Wokingham Road.”
