RB Leipzig chief says Timo Werner could snub Bayern transfer for Liverpool with German striker unwilling to sign new deal

TIMO WERNER could still join Liverpool as RB Leipzig are yet to agree a deal with Bayern Munich, according to CEO Oliver Mintzlaff.

The striker is on the Kop radar, however a move Bavaria looked on the cards as Werner has so far not agreed to extend his stay at the Red Bull Arena with 12 months left on his current deal.

Werner, 23, has hit 16 Bundesliga goals for Ralf Rangnick’s side who will finish third and play in next season’s Champions League.

But the German international who moved to Leipzig from Stuttgart in three years looks set for the Red Bull exit.

Mintzlaff told Sky Germany: “The situation is still the same. Timo Werner would rather not sign an extension, but that could change.

“I don’t think it’s completely out of the question that he could extend his deal.

“We haven’t talked to Bayern Munich about Timo Werner yet.

“Maybe he doesn’t even want to go to Munich.

“Maybe he would rather join (Thomas) Tuchel in Paris, (Jurgen) Klopp at Liverpool or (Lucien) Favre at Dortmund.

Werner played in Saturday’s goalless draw with the Bundesliga champions.

Leipzig finish their league campaign this weekend at Werder Bremen before the German Cup final against Bayern on May 25.

The striker has 24 caps for Germany and has hit nine goals for his country since making his international bow two years ago.
