Adam Lambert joined the group for a rip-roaring rendition, tearing the roof off the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The performance comes as Bohemian Rhapsody is a surprise threat at the Oscars: Rami Malek is the runaway favourite for Best Actor, while the film itself is a dark horse Best Picture after its victory at the Golden Globes. Fans were suitably wowed by the performance.
“Adam Lambert and Queen! you rocked it! Congratulations,” said one on Twitter, as Lambert’s name began trending.
“I love Adam Lambert but damn I’m getting George Michael vibes. This was a great performance. Well done!!!” said another.
Brian May had confirmed the band’s inclusion just days ago, saying it came after “much drama”.
“Yeeeeeay !!!! Time to Rock the Oscars —- watch this space !!!” he had written on Instagram.
He later added: “Ha ! OK. Now I’ve read some of your nice comments … like ‘Are you gonna be at the Oscars ?’ (!!!) … I realise maybe this is not clear ! So I can now tell you : YES !
“after much drama (drama is what it’s all about, right ?!) we have been engaged to Tear it Up, in person, live and dangerous, one night only, at the Academy Awards ceremony.
“Thank you, Oscars people – we will make you proud ! And, folks … Be There !!! Bri.”
He then posted earlier today: “It’s OSCARS Day !!! YAY !!! I think we’re ready to punch that hole in the LA sky.
“But it’s truly an ‘In the Lap of the Gods …revisited’ moment. I feel a lot of love – thanks for all the great support, folks.
“Whatever happens tonight, it’s been a fabulous journey – an extended mission – to a world we never knew before. You could almost say a NEW HORIZON ! Let’s Rock ! Bri.”TW
Express.co.uk learned that bookies Ladbrokes have been slashing odds of Bohemian Rhapsody winning Best Picture more than they have been slashing anything else related to the Oscars.
Malek is also the 1/7 easy frontrunner for Best Actor.
Bohemian Rhapsody is out now on digital download, with DVD and Blu-ray to follow on March 4.
