Power: Showrunner addresses Ghost's secret daughter theory 'I can tell you that'

The sixth season of Power wrapped up with a shocking murder mystery as viewers pieced together the clues to try and discover who killed Ghost. After the surprising final reveal on Starz, showrunner for the upcoming spin-offs Courtney Kemp has spoken out about the rumours surrounding the new series.

Season six of Power ended the rise and fall of Ghost (played by Omari Hardwick) by revealing the business mogul was shot by his own son, Tariq (Michael Rainey Jr).

Although his story has come to an end, production was underway on an impressive four spin-offs that will continue the stories of some of Power’s most popular characters.

In addition to exploring the early lives of Tommy (Joseph Sikora) and Kanan Stark (Curtis ‘50 Cent’ Jackson) in Book III: Raising Kanan, the first spin-off will also introduce two new characters.

Book II: Ghost will follow Ghost’s ex-wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton) and Tariq after his death alongside Power newcomers Mary J. Blige and Method Man.

Award-winning actress and singer Mary J. Blige is set to play new character Monet after her acclaimed performances in Mudbound and The Umbrella Academy on Netflix.

Showrunner Courtney Kemp and Star have kept tight-lipped about Monet’s role on the upcoming series, though some are speculating she could have a secret connection to Ghost.

Some fans have even speculated Monet and Ghost could have had a baby that has been kept hidden from his family during the events of the original six seasons.

However, Courtney Kemp recently took to Instagram live to reject these rumours of Ghost and Monet’s secret baby.

Monet is set to be another powerful business rival for the St. Patricks, and Courtney Kemp hinted her tough background will serve as a contrast to Ghost’s.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Courtney praised Mary J. Blige’s performance and confirmed she’ll be bringing all of her star power to the new role.

She revealed: “We use all the power and presence of the actress to communicate how this is a woman who is remarkable and unique in her abilities.

“She’s as smart, savvy, and strategic as Ghost ever was, but her learning doesn’t come from books. We always said Ghost was a bookish kid who read all the time. This woman’s acumen comes from the street.”

Although the series’ former charismatic and complex lead will no longer head the series, the showrunner confirmed everything fans loved about Power will still be present in the new spin-offs.

She added: “It will definitely have a lot of the same elements that you’re used to from Power in terms of criminality, sex, romance, and the legal system. Every scene is still about power.”

Power Book II: Ghost was previously expected to hit Starz later in 2020, but filming was put on hold following the outbreak of coronavirus.

Power season 6 is available to stream on Netflix.
