One killed in aircraft crash at Royal Birkdale Golf Club


ONE person has been killed in a plane crash at the famous Royal Birkdale Golf Club in Southport.

The aircraft came down at the course, which has hosted the Open Championship ten times, at around 7pm this evening.

Merseyside Police said officers “dealing with a microlight aircraft crash” extinguished the fire.

Just after midnight it confirmed one person had died in the crash.

Road closures are in place in the area including on Coastal Road.
