Nintendo Direct February 2019 is kicking off today, and Nintendo Switch fans could get a big SNES games announcement for Switch Online.
It has long been rumoured that Switch Online fans could soon be getting SNES games to play.
These rumours were kicked into overdrive after dataminers found a list of 22 SNES games hidden away in a recent Switch update.
Titles such as A Link To The Past, Super Mario Kart and Contra 3 were among the classic SNES games listed in Switch files.
But, as fans gear up for the February 2019 Nintendo Direct today, it’s been discovered that all mention of these games has now been removed.
Dataminer @itssimontime posted on Twitter earlier today: “All SNES game strings have been removed from the latest NES Online update.”
The news has sparked speculation among Switch fans about why Nintendo has removed any mention of these SNES titles from Switch-files.
One fan tweeted: “Probably it’s going to be it’s own app”.
Another posted: “It is possible that they are creating a separate app for the SNES games (even though putting it all on one app would be better)”.
One added: “What could it mean”.
And one wrote: “Expected. Don’t think this means anything though. If SNES games were to come to NSO it would be it’s own app”.
The timing of this news, shortly before the start of the next Nintendo Direct, is interesting.
Could this be a sign that Nintendo will confirm SNES games are coming to Switch Online during the Direct today?
Or could Ninty even be thinking of doing a stealth, surprise drop of a new SNES app for Switch Online during the Direct?
Either way, all will be revealed soon with the February 2019 Nintendo Direct not long away.
