MEGHAN Markle and Kate Middleton’s rift denial “spoke volumes” about their “cooling relationship”.
A royal expert said Kensington Palace’s statement last year about the Duchess of Sussex – who has just this week welcomed baby Archie – and the Duchess of Cambridge was “unprecedented”.
Speaking ahead of the royal birth, commentator Angela Mollard told Australian magazine New Idea’s podcast ‘Royals’ that the rumours that the women had clashed appeared to have truth.
It was reported by The Sun in November that Meghan had “reduced Kate to tears” over her demands for Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress.
It was revealed exclusively by The Sun’s Bizarre column a month later that the mum-of-three had slapped down her sister-in-law after she “b******d” a member of her staff.
“It speaks volumes,” Mollard said of the decision by a Kensington Palace spokesman to insist the row had never happened.
“[The Palace] don’t comment on very much at all, they tend to let things unravel at their own pace.
“It’s fairly unprecedented for them to speak out in this way, and I think what Kensington Palace is wanting to do is to detract from this rift that’s happening.
“Obviously, the Queen is in the golden era of her reign. She wants a cohesive royal family.
“She doesn’t want there to be divisions and conflict, so the comment would come from that perspective.
“But, of course, I think there probably is an issue.”
The royal expert also pointed out that the rumours that swirled during the Princess Diana years were eventually shown to be true.
Mollard added: “We now know that looking back on the Diana years, a lot of the aerial that happened during those years has proven to be true.
“We have to assume there is some veracity to some of these reports.
“I think we can very definitely assume that there has been a cooling of the relationship between Meghan and Kate.”
