DAVY RUSSELL had his rivals’ pants down in the Grand National on Saturday – but made sure his own underwear wasn’t going anywhere.
The rider sported a magnificent pair of lucky briefs on his way to victory aboard Tiger Roll in the world’s greatest race.
Russell may not been given the nickname ‘Long Johns Silver’ just yet, but that’s surely on the way if he can keep up his sensational record in those bright, white undershorts.
It’s no coincidence that ever since the 39-year-old has hiked up his baggy drawers, he’s tasted nothing but victory.
Having struck in two Grand Nationals and at the Cheltenham Festival when flaunting the twistedtwee undergarment, it seems the man from Youghal has found the material secret to his success.
Georg Thesmann, designer of the magical pair of pants, said: “I designed the Twisted Twee ‘Lucky Pants’ Tiger Roll’s jockey Davy Russell was wearing on Saturday – and when won the Grand National last year, and before that when he won Cheltenham, and at Galway.
“His wife bought the personalised pair for him before Cheltenham 2018 and they still seem to be working.
“We’ve been getting cards from his wife thanking us every time he’s been winning!”
Looking back on it, it’s no surprise Russell was so cool aboard Tiger Roll as he approached the final furlong – he certainly wasn’t getting his knickers in a twist.
