Liverpool scouts will watch Thiago Alcantara in action tonight for Bayern Munich, in what could be his final game for the club. The club confirmed yesterday that the midfielder wants to leave to pursue a new challenge, meaning the DFB Pokal final against Bayer Leverkusen in Berlin is likely to be his farewell.
Bayern CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed yesterday that Thiago has made it clear that he wants to move on at the end of the season.
The club were keen to get him to extend his contract which runs out in the summer of 2021 but to no avail.
“He is a top boy on and off the pitch,” Rummenigge told Bild.
“We had serious negotiations with him and fulfilled all of his wishes. But it looks like he might want to do something new again at the end of his career.

There is still plenty of time for Thiago to go back on his decision, particularly given Bayern’s remarkable transformation under Flick that sees them gunning for the Champions League.
The former Barcelona star arrived at the Allianz Arena just a few months after the club won the Champions League in 2013.
It remains the one prize he did not win at the club and now Bayern seem in with a serious chance of glory.
Liverpool are said to be the main contender to sign Thiago this summer and there is talk in the Bayern Munich dressing room that he wants to move to Anfield.

While there is little evidence to suggest the Reds will move for the Spain international, they may get an incentive to do so tonight.
After the match, should Thiago cut an emotional figure, it would suggest his decision is final and there is no going back.
Sky Sports have also confirmed that Liverpool will have scouts present at the Olympiastadion and if Thiago puts on masterclass, Jurgen Klopp’s phone may be buzzing.
Bayern are said to be looking for £31million to sell Thiago this summer. The club do not intend to lose him on a free transfer 12 months down the line and will use the cash to find a replacement.
The German giants still have a Champions League last 16 clash with Chelsea to play next month when the competition takes to Portugal for a mini-tournament.
Thiago is expected to follow in the footsteps of fellow Bundesliga star Timo Werner and snub the Champions League in favour of starting the new season with his next club.
