Sophie Countess of Wessex married into the British Royal Family in 1999.
Now a working royal, she represents the Royal Family and various charities in her role.
It has now been revealed that the mother-of-two to Lady Louise Windsor, 15, and James, Viscount Severn, 11, is taking over a role from Prince Philip.
The Royal Family Twitter account tweeted: “The Duke of Edinburgh has officially handed over the Patronage of The Chartered Management Institute to The Countess of Wessex.”
The Chartered Management Institute supports those in management positions across the UK.
“This evening The Countess will attend an event to celebrate the outstanding achievements of UK managers from across industry,” the account added.
Prince Philip was a patron for the body for many years, but has handed over the role as part of his retirement from royal life.
The Duke officially retired age 96 in May 2017.
“The Duke of Edinburgh was Patron of @cmi_managers – the professional body for management and leadership – from 1992,” the Royal Family Twitter account stated.
“During that time the Institute has led the debate on the future of management and leadership, the gender pay gap, and employee wellbeing and engagement.
“The Countess is an active supporter of UK industry, and Founder and Chair of the Women’s Network Forum, an organisation which works to promote women’s success in the workplace through best practice sharing and supporting those making gender equality a reality.”
Sophie is adding this to her long list of organisations for which she is a representative.
The Countess is passionate about charity work, especially supporting people with disabilities, the prevention of blindness in developing countries, agriculture and fashion.
Why Sophie Countess of Wessex not a princess?
Prince Edward took on the title of Earl of Wessex after he married Sophie, reportedly by request.
This meant Sophie was given the title based on being the wife of a Earl rather than of a Prince, and she was named the Countess of Wessex.
Where does Sophie Countess of Wessex live?
Sophie Countess of Wessex and her husband Prince Edward live in Bagshot Park, a stunning royal residence in a Tudor gothic style.
In an interview for the February 2015 issue of Harper’s Bazaar Sophie opened the doors to give a peek inside.
The walls have been adorned with pale blue patterned wallpaper, and the floors feature a purple and blue-toned rug.
