How old is Elton John?

Elton John is a 71-year-old singer/songwriter responsible for some of the most well-known pop songs in music history.

These include Rocket Man, Crocodile Rock, Candle in the Wind, Your Song, Tiny Dance, and Saturday Night’s Alright (For Fighting).

Starting life as a pianist in a pub at the age of fifteen, his career in the spotlight has spanned over half a century.

He was born Reginald “Reggie” Dwight, but adopted the stage name Elton John when he started performing professionally.

The name is a combination of saxophone player Elton Dean, and blues singer Long John Baldry.

He has had a long-term professional collaborator in songwriter Bernie Taupin, who has been credited for many of Elton’s hits.

Elton is a long-term supporter of Watford FC, was the club’s chairman and has a stand in his honour at the club’s stadium.

Since being in the spotlight he has used his influence to create the Elton John AIDS Foundation, launching the charity in 1992 to fund AIDS prevention programmes and help those who have been diagnosed.

According to Forbes, Elton’s estimated net worth is an astounding $450million (£319.2million).

Who is David Furnish?

David Furnish is a Canadian filmmaker and former advertising executive.

David and Elton first got together in 1993 and have remained together ever since.

They were one of the first couples in the UK to get a civil partnership, hosting the ceremony in Windsor on December 21, 2005 – the day the Civil Partnership Act came into force.

When gay marriage became legal in the UK in 2014, the pair married in Windsor on their ninth anniversary to cement their relationship.

The couple have two sons, Zachary Jackson Levi, seven, and five-year-old Elijah Joseph Daniel, born using a surrogate mother.

Will Elton be performing at the Royal Wedding?

On May 17, 2018 it was reported that Elton will reportedly perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding on May 19, 2018 – 21 years after singing at Princess Diana’s funeral.

The singer is a close friend of the Royal family and attended the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

It’s unclear whether he’ll be playing the piano during the ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor or performing at the reception later in the evening, according to TMZ.

When was Sir Elton knighted?

Among the hundreds of accolades the star has received, he has also been given a string of nods from the Queen and received a CBE in 1995.

In 1998, Sir Elton was knighted in recognition for his charity work.

Other awards of note include being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1992, and a Hollywood Walk of Fame star in 1975.

He has also won an Oscar for Best Original Song in 1995 for his Lion King track, Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

In 2013, he was given the Brit Icon Award for his lasting impact on UK music.

Is Elton John retiring and when is his world tour?

On January 24, 2018 after much anticipation, Sir Elton officially announced his retirement from touring.

But before calling it quits the singer will embark on a global 300-show extravaganza which will take in “every continent you can possibly think of”.

Speaking on a live stream to discuss the news, Sir Elton said: “The priorities in my life have changed. My priorities now are my children, my husband, and my family.”

In regards to his health after a bout of sickness in April 2017, the 70-year-old added: “If you’re going to do 300 shows, you’re not in ill health. I’m in great health.”
