Newland, responsible for giving Twiston-Davies his 1,000 winner at Southwell last June, is a master at improving other trainers’ horses and FORECAST (7.10, nap) can continue that trend. Formerly under the care of Martin Keighley, the gelding finished an eye-catching third behind Ballyhome, on his first run for Newland, at Market Rasen last month.
That was only his second outing over fences and with that experience behind him he will now be ready to open his account.
SOMETHINGABOUTANGELA (5.05) can start the celebrations for Twiston-Davies and Newland by taking the novice chase.
The mare has some decent hurdle form in Ireland, and this looks an ideal opportunity for the seven-year-old to make her mark over fences.
Earlier on the card sheep farmer and capable trainer David Jeffreys can make it treble with PETRASTAR (4.30, treble).
Jeffreys, who only has a handful of horses under his care, has shown that he is a trainer to follow after landing his landmark victory on the Flat last year.
Petrastar faces a stiff task with his two penalties for his recent victories but he won with a ton in hand on his latest outing at today’s track.
For the first time ITV cameras will be in action at Perth for the bet365 Sam Morshead Perth Gold Cup Day on August 30.
