Robert Winston’s mount ticks enough trends boxes while some of his key rivals come up short. Most winners of the Champions Sprint have had a busy season, with four outings or more the norm.

So we’ll cross out Bacchus, Harry Angel and Tasleet from this year’s hopefuls.

This has not been a race for outsiders so Donjuan Triumphant, Dream Of Dreams, Sands Of Mali and Speak In Colours are too long in the betting.

It’s a big negative to have won last time out, which spells bad news for Limato, Projection, Son Of Rest and The Tin Man.

We really have reduced them to a shortlist now with only Brando, Librisa Breeze and Sir Dancealot still in the running.

All three have plenty of ticks in terms of being distance winners who have won at Group level with a relatively recent run under their belt.

One thing that sets Librisa Breeze apart is his winning form at Ascot. He took this race last year so we know he’s suited by the track.

Brando edges out Sir Dancealot but they both look to be playing for places.
