Grand National Festival tips: Aintree 4.20 trends – we help you find the winner of the race at Aintree on Saturday

Key trends:

  • Stick between 134 and 140 on official ratings
  • A win over 3m or further is important
  • Last-time chase winners have a poor record
  • Latest run within 35 days

THE official ratings are an excellent pointer for this and there’s a tight band to concentrate on.

Given that nine of the past 11 winners were between 134 and 140 it makes sense to focus on the chances of: Springtown Lake, Reikers Island, Some Buckle, Smooth Stepper, Oldgrangewood and Polydora.

Of those, Reikers Island has been off the track too long to be winning this. Springtown Lake has yet to win over 3m.

A win earlier in the season is actually a negative for Polydora.

OLDGRANGEWOOD (Click here to compare the best prices and place your bet)

Because only one 10-year-old has scored in the past decade, there are some concerns for Some Buckle and Smooth Stepper.

That leaves us with OLDGRANGEWOOD who was a good fourth in this last season and lost a shoe when midfield at Cheltenham last time.
