Furious Spike Lee storms out of the Oscars as Green Book is announced Best Picture


FURIOUS director Spike Lee stormed out of the Oscars after the Best Picture award went to Green Book instead of his film BlacKkKlansman.

One onlooker said the 61-year-old was “clearly furious” after his movie was snubbed, getting out of his seat and walking towards the back of the auditorium.

Deadline Hollywood reports that he then walked back to appeared to get in an intense conversion with comedian Jordan Peele, one of the film’s co-producers.

Basketball fanatic Spike used a sporting analogy in the press room later, saying: “I thought I was courtside at the Garden and the ref made the wrong call.”

Sipping from a glass of champagne, he declared: “This is my sixth glass – and you know why.”

When one reporter asked him what he thought of Green Book’s victory, he replied tersely: “Next question.”

He said ‘everyone has their opinion’ about how should have won

He added, making a reference to the film Driving Miss Daisy beating his film Do The Right Thing in 1990: “I’m snakebit.

“Every time someone’s driving somebody, I lose – but they changed the seating arraangement.”

Green Book tells the story of a white man who becomes friends with the black musician he drives through the Deep South in the 1960s.

Spike’s movie tells the story of a black detective who takes on the deadly task of infiltrating and exposing the Ku Klux Klan.

However, while he missed out on Best Picture, Spike’s BlacKkKlansman did win Best Adapted Screenplay, with the director leaping into the arms of Samuel L Jackson on stage.

The director was far more gracious when questioned by British reporters on the red carpet this morning.

Speaking to Good Morning Britain about Green Book’s victory, he said: “Everybody has their opinion. Diplomatic. I just did a Henry Kissinger.”

He added: “I had six glasses of bubbly and after this I’m going to see my Brooklyn brother Jay Z and his lovely wife Beyonce.”
