    The final episodde of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air aired on May, 20, 1996 after six seasons and 148 episodes. More than two decades later, The Fresh-Prince of Bel-Air is getting a reboot, with the show’s star, Will Smith, serving as executive producer.     When is The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot out?

    Unfortunately, a release date for The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot has not yet been confirmed. 

    At the moment the series does not yet have an official home Netflix, HBO Max and Peacock are among several platforms in talks to stream the beloved sitcom’s reboot.

    The show’s revival was only announced in August 2020, so fans will be waiting until 2021 at the earliest to see the brand new series.

    However, the current coronavirus pandemic could delay production on the new series, so fans should be prepared for a potential 2022 release date.

    With Will Smith serving as an executive producer, his company Westbrook Studios are making the reboot with Universal TV.

    Sadly, James Avery who played Philip Banks in the original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will not return. 

    Avery, died on December 31, 2018  from complications following open heart surgery.

    However, if the reboot is going to stick true to the inspiration for the series, a fan film made by Morgan Cooper, the reboot will be set in the preesnt day.

    This means, fans should expect a brand new cast of actors playing the Bel-Air roles.

    The synopsis for Cooper’s film reads: “What would happen if Will Smith made The Fresh Prince today? Bel-Air, a story of a kid from Philly whose life got turned upside-down… in 2019.”

    Whether the cast will be the same cast from Cooper’s trailer remains unknown for now.

    The cast of the Cooper’s short film included  Jerry Madison as Will Smith,  Sherri Roulette-Mosley as Vy Smith,  Granvile O’Neal as Uncle Phil Banks, Kira Ashby as Aunt Viv Banks,  Jelani Talib as Carlton Banks,  Rufus Burns as Jazz, Sada K. as Hilary Banks, Khrystal Coppage as Ashley Banks and Jada Paige as Lisa Fuller.

    What will happen in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air reboot?

    The reboot of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air will be a little different from the original series.

    While the original series was a comedy sitcom, the rebooted version will be a hard-hitting drama.

    The reboot is based on the viral 2019 YouTube trailer created by Morgan Cooper, which reimagined the Fresh Prince of Bel Air as a gritty drama in the present day. 

    According to the trailer, the plot will see Will avoid time in jail for carrying a gun after Uncle Phil was able to strike a deal to get him out.

    Just like the original series, Will moves to Bel-Air from Philadelphia to get a second chance at life.

    Cooper is working with Will Smith on the new series of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and will co-write, direct and executive produce.

    On his own YouTube channel at the time of hte trailer’s release, Smith said in a video titled ,How I Really Feel About That BEL-AIR Trailer: “[the trailer is] brilliant idea, the dramatic version of The Fresh Prince for the next generation”.

    Original creators Andy and Susan Borowitz will serve as executive producers on the reboot, alongisde Smith and original executive producers Quincy Jones and Benny Medina.
