Fox News host defends Trump over Mueller report – 'Most humiliating thing EVER to happen'

US attorney general William Barr released the full redacted version of special counsel Mueller’s report yesterday and quickly received widespread criticism from the Democrats. Despite that heavy criticism, Trump remained defiant after the report cleared the President of any serious links with Russia. While many Democrats criticised the report’s findings, Fox News host, Tucker Carlson put forward a staunch defence of the President.

In a response, tweeted by Trump, Mr Carlson said: “The Mueller Report is perhaps the single most humiliating thing that has ever happened to the White House Press in the history of this Country.

“They know they lie, many reporters lied about Russia collusion and so much more.

“If dozens of Federal prosecutors spent two years trying to charge you with a crime, and found they couldn’t, it would mean there wasn’t any evidence you did it – and that’s what happened here – that’s what we just learned from the Mueller Report.”

Although Trump escaped from any serious ramifications, the investigation led to the charges of 35 people during its course.

The report did indicate however that Trump had tried to get Robert Mueller removed from the investigation.

Moreover, while the report did not find any criminality between Trump’s campaign and Russia, it could not reach a concrete legal conclusion on whether the President had tried to obstruct justice.

The report states: “If we had confidence after a thorough investigation of the facts that the president clearly did not commit obstruction of justice, we would so state.

“Based on the facts and the applicable legal standards, we are unable to reach that judgement.

“Accordingly, while this report does not conclude that the president committed a crime, it also does not exonerate him.”

In response to the report, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi condemned the findings from the report.

Ms Pelosi termed the findings as being “distorted” as she alluded that Mr Barr is deliberately protecting the President.

She said: “What we’ve learned today is that Attorney General Barr deliberately distorted significant portions of Special Counsel Mueller’s report.

“Special Counsel Mueller’s report paints a disturbing picture of a president who has been weaving a web of deceit, lies and improper behaviour and acting as if the law doesn’t apply to him.”
