Tommy (played by Shay Crotty), like many of the other children of EastEnders, had been serving as an additional face to scenes along with his twin brothers, Ernie Moon (Cody Briffett) and Bert Moon (Elliot Briffett). Earlier this year, however, it was all change when it was revealed the eldest son of Kat Slater (Jessie Wallace) was going to be taking centre stage in a break new plot on the BBC soap. Unfortunately, the weeknight serial drama was taken off air due to production being halted as a result of the coronavirus pandemic and the storyline was therefore put on pause. However, with his mother making a return to the Square in new episodes set to broadcast later this year, will the youngster find out the real cause behind his struggles at school?
With Kat having left Walford earlier this year, it was up to her partner Kush Kazemi (Davood Ghadami) to pick up the pieces of the iconic families troubles.
This included helping Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) with her grief over losing partner Daniel Cook (Adrian Edmondson) to cancer and trying to find out what was playing on Tommy’s mind.
When the market stall trader finally sat down with the youngster, the schoolboy admitted he was being bullied at school as he was falling behind with work.
It was never revealed why the young boy was struggling in class, but his mother’s partner offered him some reassurance everything was going to be ok.
Wanting to get down to the bottom of the problem and having watched over the youngster doing his schoolwork during lockdown, will Kush call on the doctor’s to help get a diagnosis?

It’s already been revealed when the soap returns to screens, there will be a time jump as the characters of Walford will be coming out of lockdown.
Although there might not be anything physically wrong with Tommy, Kush might have decided to seek advice by virtual means and will have to take the youngster to an assessment.
With so many possibilities as to why he’s been struggling with his work, one fan on Reddit believes Kat’s son might have dyslexia.
This would certainly be an explanation as to why he’s falling behind and if the right diagnosis is made, assistance can then be put in place to aid his learning development.
The actor said: “Kush’s experience in lockdown is very, very different. So he’s in [Number] 31 with all the kids, with Jean, with Mo, with Shirley… and we also have Kat back, so they actually spend lockdown together.”
With the mother-of-five firmly back in the mix, will see for herself just how trying school work is for her son?
Tommy was somewhat of a miracle baby for Kat when she fell pregnant with him back in 2010 as a result of a fling with Michael Moon (Steve John Shepherd).
When he was born, however, his mother was left distraught when she believed he had died just days after her giving birth, with no idea Ronnie Mitchell (Samantha Womack) had swapped her infant for Kat’s.
Some months later, the troubled character was forced to admit the truth and Kat had her son back in her arms.
The mother-of-three at the time then went on to raise the boy with her husband, Alfie Moon (Shane Ritchie) before she gave birth to twin sons four years later.
Although she has her hands full looking after cousin Hayley Slater’s (Katie Jenkins) baby daughter Cherry, too, will Kat make sure she gets down to the bottom of her son’s worries?
Not one to mess with, she’ll be sure to raise the bullying issue with the school as well, but will this result in her homeschooling the youngster for the foreseeable future?
EastEnders: Secrets From The Square continues Monday at 8pm on BBC One.
