EASTENDERS welcomed two newcomers, Iqra and Habiba Ahmed, onto Albert Square this week, and the duo have been likened to Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell.
Masood Ahmed (played by Nitin Ganatra) was joined on Walford by his nieces Iqra (Priya Davdra) and Habiba (Rukku Nahar), but within moments of stepping foot on the Square they have caused havoc and sparked comparisons between them and the Mitchell siblings.
The latest arrivals to the BBC One soap jumped the turnstiles as they exited the tube station, and continued to ruffle people’s feathers as the episode continued.
The duo managed to cleverly persuade their uncle to run his restaurant Walford East while he was away, but Masood was suspicious about the pair and believed they had an ulterior motive.
After much persuading Masood gave in to his relatives, only for them to fire all the agency staff booked in to work at the eatery.
During the show the new characters hinted they had other family issues to contend with.
When Masood threatened to speak with Iqra and Habiba’s parents, they seemed panicked.
Iqra and Habiba’s quick-thinking attitude to get what they want, as well as their illegal actions, has seen viewers draw comparisons between the double act Ronnie and Roxy Mitchell, who first appeared on the soap in 2007 until 2017, and were equally as calculating as their tough cousins Phil and Grant Mitchell.
One BBC One watcher tweeted: “Are Iqra and Habiba gonna be the new Ronnie and Roxy? #EastEnders.”
Another soap viewer shared their predictions for the duo: “#EastEnders do not have a good track record of introducing new characters, male or female. I get the sense these girls will ruffle feather and divide opinion. I like Iqra on first impression. Not keen on Habiba but I didn’t like Roxy either for years..”
A third wrote: “Iqra and Habiba are going to cause absolute carnage from first glance they seem really fun. #EastEnders.”
A separate social media user shared: “I’m loving @Priya_Davdra & @RukkuNahar. The millennial Roxy & Ronnie. Welcome to Walford. #EastEnders.”
While another added: “Well hello new Ronnie and Roxy! #EastEnders”

Other viewers are excited to see Iqra and Habiba’s storylines unfold over the coming weeks.
Another tweeted: “I see a lot of people comparing Habiba and Iqra to Ronnie and Roxie, and I get it. But don’t just think of them as a Poundland version. Give them time to grow into the roles and their characters. I’m excited to see where their stories go #EastEnders.”
“Well I like em…Iqra more so on first impressions. Thought the same with Ronnie and Roxy, disliked Roxy for a while. Room to grow and adjust. #EastEnders fans are the worst for attacking newbies. Give them a chance. Like Stacey, New Lauren and Karen I bet they flourish”, shared a separate viewer.
