Donald Trump declared the incidence an “illegal late night election coup”, which he says must have been planned in advance. The US President wrote on Twitter: “In an illegal late night coup, Nevada’s clubhouse Governor made it impossible for Republicans to win the state. Post Office could never handle the Traffic of Mail-In Votes without preparation. Using Covid to steal the state. See you in Court!”
The quarrel in Nevada comes after lawmakers tried to make it easier for voters to cast their vote amid the coronavirus pandemic, by ensuring every register voter receives a mail-in ballot.
The news led to an outrcry from Republican politicians, with Former Nevada Attorney General Adam Laxalt writing on Twitter: “Gov. Sisolak and the NV Dems called a special session with no public present and inside 24 hours are ramming through mail-in balloting and ballot harvesting.
“They are massively altering our election 97 days out entirely without the SecState. They are working to steal our election.”
President Trump has frequently hit out at mail-in voting, claiming without evidence that it will lead to widespread election fraud throughout the election.
He has suggested he might not accept the upcoming Presidential election result if people are unable to cast their votes in person.
