Juventus are on the verge of securing their eight Serie A title in a row.

But they have failed to achieve their primary target for this season, shockingly crashing out of the Champions League after the 2-1 loss to the Dutch side on Tuesday.

And according to La Repubblica, the significance of that defeat could be much more profound than it first seemed.

The Italian news outlet claims that it has put Ronaldo’s future in doubt and he could leave Juventus next year.

‘DEAFENING SILENCE’

He was reportedly left disillusioned by the defeat to the Dutch minnows of much lower financial resources than the Serie A giants.

Gazzetta dello Sport described the atmosphere in Juve’s camp as “deafening silence” following the result, which has deteriorated Ronaldo’s relationship with the club.

His £89m transfer was meant to help Juventus eventually bring Champions League glory back to Turin.

The Italians have failed to do so since the 1995/96 season, recently losing two finals – to Barcelona in 2015 and to Real Madrid in 2017.

And it was Ronaldo – otherwise known as Mr Champions League – who started the 4-1 dismantling of Juve two years ago, inspiring Los Blancos’ victory with a double.

He has scored 26 goals and added 12 assists this season.

But, most notably, Ronaldo single-handedly fired the Serie A giants to the Champions League quarter-finals with a hat-trick against Atletico Madrid.

The Portuguese star’s contract expires in 2022.

However, if Juve do not have a real chance of claiming the fabled trophy in the nearest future, it might end up in an early divorce.
