Coronation Street’s Lucy Fallon forced to deny new soap boss is to blame for her exit after fans accuse him of ‘ruining show’

LUCY Fallon has been forced to deny new Coronation Street boss Iain MacLeod is to blame for her quitting the soap after fans blamed him for “ruining the show.”

Yesterday the 23-year-old actress was revealed as the seventh star to quit the soap this year.

Lucy Fallon has been forced to deny that new Corrie boss Iain MacLeod has played any part in her decision to leave

But Lucy took to Twitter last night to defend the producer after he received a fan backlash.

She said: “Just to clarify, my decision to leave was made in August last year and has nothing to do with ANYONE at Coronation Street. I didn’t make it lightly and I am going to miss every single person there. Excited for my final year at the best place! Woo”

Her tweet came just hours after The Sun Online exclusively revealed that she would be leaving the show at the end of her contract in 2020.

Confirming the story, Lucy wrote: “After the most incredible 4 years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020. It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me.

“I’ve made lifelong friends with some of the most talented and hardworking people in the industry, I’ve had some terrific and immensely important storylines and I’ve laughed with the best people everyday. I’m so thankful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street, I owe everything to them and I will miss them greatly.”

Fans immediately took to Twitter to voice their concerns about the sudden mass exodus of some of their favourite Bethany Platt, as well as other popular characters.

“So bhavna limbachia has left the cobbles now faye brooke’s id leaving and so is tristan and now lucy fallon is leaving next year so many cast members are dropping like flys since ian mcleod took over from kate oates that just proves he’s kinda crap,” commented one.

While another replied: “Makes 6 for this year, and 1 next year. For now anyways. Corrie has a serious issue with cast memberser dropping like flies, especially the majority being woman. Iain is corrie’s boss and everything has to be okay’d by him, so he is definitely to blame for this.”

This isn’t the first time that fans have taken to social media to voice their concerns either, as the situation seems to have worsened as more of the soap stars have announced their departures.

On Tuesday Faye Brookes revealed she was leaving, shortly followed by Katie McGlynn on Wednesday, as well as Tristan Gemmill (Robert), Connie Hyde (Gina), Bhavna Limbachia (Rana) and Kym Marsh (Michelle) who have quit the show this year.

However, soap insiders have assured The Sun Online that the new producer isn’t to blame.

They said: “Corrie’s cast is the biggest it has ever been, and actors always come and go in a soap.

“Producers have recently cast Gemma’s brother and four members of the Bailey family.

“Corrie is a great show to work on and everyone is very excited about Iain’s plans for the summer, there are some massive storylines coming up.

Sometimes actors want to try other things, sometimes storylines dictate that people will leave.

“There is no issue at all with Iain.”
