CHILDREN will be banned from liking posts on Facebook and Instagram under a new British code of conduct for social media.

The measures, proposed by the Information Commissioner’s Office, will include rules forcing companies to set under-18s’ profiles to “high privacy” by default.

It comes after Prince Harry warned that social media was “more addictive than drugs or alcohol”.

Meanwhile Facebook apologised after the network and its apps WhatsApp and Instagram crashed in the UK yesterday.

Many people ended up turning to Twitter where they joked that they were relieved at least one popular social media platform was still working.

A spokesman for Facebook said: “Earlier today, some people may have experienced trouble connecting to the family of apps.

“The issue has since been resolved; we’re sorry for any inconvenience.”
