Child Benefit payments to stop for some people this month – how to apply for an extension

“Courses that are part of a job contract are not approved,” details GOV.UK.

Another aspect to be aware of is the child must be accepted onto the course or training before they turn 19.

Should the child leave the approved education or training, then the payment will stop at whichever date comes first out of the end of February, May 31, August 31, or November 30.

However, some people may be able to apply for an extension for Child Benefit.

Claimants could get Child Benefit for 20 weeks if the child leaves approved or training, and they either register with their local careers service, Connexions (or a similar organisation in Northern Ireland, the EU, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein), or sign up to join the armed forces.
