WILLIAM HENRY (28-1) blasted through the final furlong to grab the strong-travelling Wicklow Brave in the shadows of the post.
Nico de Boinville timed is effort to perfection upon the Nicky Henderson-trained gelding.
It looked impossible at one stage, but under a power-packed de Boinville drive the nine-year-old flew late to just get up on the post.
There were plenty going well approaching two out but it was the son of King’s Theatre – under the pump from some way out – who nailed them.
The win means Nico de Boinville and Nicky Henderson are off the mark, with Altior to come in the Champion Chase.
Wicklow Brave (28-1) just lost out in second, with Ballyandy (14-1) third and Brio Conti (10-1) fourth.

Winning owner Dai Walters said: “I said to Nicky, just run it!
“He said the ground was too soft but I said run it anyway.
“I didn’t think I would get any winners after my two got beaten in the Supreme yesterday.
The same thing happened a few years ago when Oscar Whiskey got beat – and then Whisper won!”
