Chelsea star could block Kai Havertz transfer after latest update reveals twist

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has made Kai Havertz his top transfer target this summer following the arrivals of Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. However, one player could block the Bayer Leverkusen star’s arrival in west London.

Lampard is looking for more attacking options as Pedro and Willian are expected to leave the club when their contracts expire at the end of the season.

Talk of a stand-off behind-the-scenes between Chelsea and Willian over an extension has led to the Blues looking at alternatives, including Havertz. But the Brazilian attacker yesterday revealed he is not that far away from coming to an agreement.

Chelsea have apparently offered the 31-year-old a two-year contract, which is one year shorter than he desires.

Willian is considering leaving Lampard’s side but if he lowers his demands and signs an extension it could have repercussions in the transfer window.

Fixing a leaky defence is also high on Lampard’s priority list so having Willian’s commitment may change his transfer stance.

A new left-back and centre-half is required and they may be sought first if Willian puts pen-to-paper.

Leverkusen are demanding £90million for Havertz but the 21-year-old’s contract expires in 2022 so he will be available for a cut-price next year.

Willian has been in top form for Chelsea since the Premier League resumed after the coronavirus break.

And while speaking to journalist Ale Oliveira on the De Sola YouTube channel, Willian provided an update that he is closer to agreeing a new deal than many people thought.

“Chelsea only offered me two years and I asked for three. My goal in the next contract is to sign for three years. So I haven’t had a deal with Chelsea yet.

“This is what I asked the club for, three years of contract. If you give me that, I’ll get the pen and sign the contract tomorrow.”
