ROSS BARKLEY made a huge impact on and off the pitch as a late Chelsea sub.
The England midfielder flattened a steward when he slid off the pitch – then killed off West Ham with a glorious pass for Eden Hazard‘s second goal.
And social media seemed marginally more entranced by the 25-year-old’s flying lunge than his precision ball.
Amused fans dubbed his two-footed follow-through after he missed a far-post chance as “cynical,” “studs up” and a “cracking challenge”.
One tweeted: “Hahahaha Barkley just went straight through the back of that steward. Red card!!”
Similar comments included: “late tackle.. deserves a yellow” and “someone get on that two-footed replay of Barkley and that steward”.
But other supporters focused on Barkley’s calm, angled pass that enabled Hazard to rasp home a last-minute clincher – after the Belgian had weaved through for a stunning solo opener in the 2-0 defeat of West Ham.
One fan admitted: “I rip on him a lot but this is a quality pass from #BARKLEY.”
And as more praise followed, another supporter posted: “Everyone talking about Hazard. Can we just appreciate the pass from Barkley to find him, and Jorginho had an absolute blinder.”
