Car ripped to shreds in motorway horror smash but couple somehow walk away unscathed

A COUPLE had a miracle escape when their car was ripped to shreds in a horror smash with a lorry on the motorway.

Scott and Kerrie McKim somehow walked away unscathed after their car was crushed between and a HGV and barrier on the inside lane – where it was struck by another lorry.

Horror pictures show the VW Scirocco completely mangled after the crash on the M1 – with the engine exposed and roof ripped off.

Debris torn from the car in the smash has also been strewn across the busy motorway.

Scott, 46, who has been a road traffic officer for eight years, told the Mirror: “I’ve attended fatalities where there was far less impact and damage to the vehicle.”

The couple were eventually freed from the wreckage after 40 minutes, with Scott suffering a hairline fracture on his left eye socket and midwife Kerrie a broken shoulder.

They were driving on the M1 near Milton Keynes, Bucks, on March 7 when truck driver Zbigniew Kaczorowski unexpectedly switched lanes.

As Kerrie, 42, “screamed hysterically”, the pair were hit by another lorry while crushed between the truck and barrier.

Kaczorowski, 55, has now been banned from the roads for a year after admitting careless driving.
