WANT your home to look like a 1980’s porn set? Simply install a swimming pool in your lounge.

This unconventional living room feature was the star of the show in this week’s episode of Kirstie Allsopp and Phil Spencer’s Love It Or List It.

Homeowners Tony Congdon and Christine Attwood revealed they bought the bungalow in Purley, South London, 22 years ago as they thought it offered something “different” and “exciting”.

The colourful 710 square foot pool, which is situated behind a curtain and adorned with plants, takes up the majority of the living room.

Christine said: “When we describe our house to people, we tell them that our lounge has a swimming pool in it. But basically the lounge is a swimming pool. It does really look like a 1980s porn set.”

From the outside, the house looks just like a normal bungalow – but looking around the property, Phil joked it resembled “Hugh Hefner’s Surrey retreat”, while Tony admitted the pampas grass outside led to people thinking it was a swinger’s house.

The idea of the programme is that while Phil tries to encourage homeowners to jump ship and find somewhere else to live, Kirstie tries to convince them to stay by carrying out renovations to the property.

Christine is keen to move, explaining they “wanted a party house” when they bought it, but “now we don’t”.

However, Tony would prefer to stay.

At the beginning of the show, Phil jokes that Purley reminds him of 70s sitcom Terry and June.

“The middle-aged couple, move to suburbia, kids leave home, midlife-crisis ensures. It is a classic story,” he says.

On encountering the pool, Phil jokes: “I bet that has seen plenty of action.”

In Purley, the current average value of a home is £626,442 – almost double the UK average of £310,757.

Kirstie’s renovations, which cost £150,000, see the pool filled in, giving the couple a much larger living space.

But despite her billing it “the greatest transformation we have ever had”, Tony and Christine decide to sell it.

Kirstie and Phil’s Love It or List It continues this Wednesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
