However, his pal Gemma Collins cleared up his position ahead of the live show on her Instagram story last night.
On the practice rink with the former Westlife man, Gemma revealed her delight, telling fans: “I’m so delighted Brian is staying in the competition because if Brian wasn’t in it, I was about to hang up my boots and say goodbye.”
She asked him: “Is your back alright?”
To which he stoically replied: “No it’s sore, but I’ll get by.”

Earlier this week Brian’s future on the show was looking “unlikely”.
It came after he fell on his back last month and badly damaged his rotator cuff.
He has been struggling in training this week and has been in and out of physio with his ongoing back problems.
A backstage source previously told The Sun: “Brian has been throwing himself into training but is finding it really tough as his back is giving him issues. He has been to see the show’s physio, but it’s looking increasingly unlikely that he will have to pull out of the show.
“Obviously he’s determined to keep trying but he knows there’s only so much he can do without inflicting a serious injury and causing long-term damage.”
Bosses had to defend the show’s safety record – after one of its pro skaters questioned why celebs would want to sign up.

“Like, ‘Yeah, come and join this show, you could faint, whack your chin open, end up in surgery having a dislocated shoulder … ‘ There are many eventualities.”
A spokesman for the ITV show said: “Brian has a bad back and is currently being monitored by our show physio.”
