Brendan Rodgers claims ‘no great change’ in Harry Maguire’s chase as Man Utd eye £80m transfer

BRENDAN RODGERS revealed there is “no great change” in the transfer pursuit for Harry Maguire as Manchester United eye the £80million man.

Leicester received £70m bids from United and City for the centre-back this summer, but both were told to up the offer by £10m.

Maguire has urged Foxes chiefs to make an agreement with either Manchester club, as he plots a big money move away from the King Power Stadium this season.

However, his manager Rodgers insists the club do not have to sell the 26-year-old, though if the “premium” price tag is met, the England star is free to leave.

Rodgers said: “There’s still time to go. You never know what happens with all the players but at this moment in time, this is a top-class player who will cost another club a lot of money.

“Thankfully we’re in a position where we don’t have to sell. We don’t want to sell him. He’s a really special player. He fits how we work fantastically well.

“But if anyone does come in for him you have to pay that premium for a top level player. He’s just getting his fitness in and we’re quite relaxed on it.

“I don’t overthink it. I’m just training the players, working with the players. There’s been no great change from midweek.

“I don’t overthink it. He’s a top-class player. We want to keep him. Like I always say, whoever’s here will be here. We get to work with him.”

SunSport revealed Maguire now favours a switch to Old Trafford, and wants to become United captain.

Although he grew up as Sheffield United supporter, Maguire’s defensive heroes were United stars Steve Bruce, Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand.

If Maguire completes a move to Old Trafford, he knows he would not immediately land the armband – with Paul Pogba a shock contender.

But the centre-back believes he could persuade boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to one day given him the job as club captain.
